Kurt Lancaster, PhD, wrote the key book on DSLR production, DSLR Cinema: Crafting the Film Look with Video, Focal Press, 2011 and Video Journalism for the Web: A Practical Introduction to Multimedia Storytelling, Routledge, 2012.
In addition, he is a professional educator and multimedia producer. He received his PhD in performance studies from NYU and has taught at MIT, NYU, and currently teaches multimedia journalism, DSLR production, and digital postproduction at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ. He has trained reporters and produced video at the pulitzer-winning international newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor.

Rates are negotiable, but typically he would require expenses to be covered (transportation and lodging), in addition to the following fees:
- 2-3 hour lecture and demonstration: $500
- All day (6-8 hours) hands-on workshop: min. $1,000 ($150 per person)
- 2 day hands-on workshop: min. $2,000 ($250 per person)
- Consulting: $150/hour
Possible lecture/demonstrations include DSLR cinematography, storytelling techniques, visual storytelling, documentary journalism and production, digital filmmaking, equipment packages for backpack journalists, among others.
Workshops include DSLR shooting and editing, as well as field practice and critique.
